Assistant or Associate Professor, Tenure Track: Literacy Education  

The University of Pennsylvania , Graduate School of Education, Language and Literacy in Education Division, invites applications for a tenure-track position (assistant or associate professor level) in literacy education.  We are particularly interested in candidates whose research programs are centered on the interdisciplinary study of literacy and language, reading and writing in educational settings broadly construed, with a preferred emphasis on elementary education, urban and multicultural school/classroom-based research and pedagogy, and/or technology, as well as a commitment to educational practice and issues of equity and social justice.  A successful candidate must have expertise in literacy teaching and curriculum and the ability to teach graduate students with varying levels of experience in the field. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach masters and doctoral courses in literacy theory, research, and practice. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in our urban school-university partnerships, nationally recognized research centers, and/or other post-secondary collaborative programs within and outside the University.   The program in Reading/Writing/Literacy prepares masters and doctoral students for careers in research, teaching, and leadership in schools, colleges, universities, and community-based adult and family literacy programs.  The successful candidate will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary faculty committed to improving public education through exemplary applied research.  Preferred candidates will have a strong interest in instructional practice, teaching experience in PreK-12 settings, and research interests which include one or more of the following: elementary reading and writing instruction and curriculum, theoretical perspectives on literacy pedagogies and learning, literacy policy, cultural diversity, literacy development in and out of school, and multi-modal literacies/technologies and learning environments.

Policy, Management and Evaluation Division (PMED) Graduate School of Education

The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track position (rank open) in quantitative and experimental research methods, with a background in education. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate with a specialization in quantitative methods as applied in the social sciences, and an outstanding record of research productivity and teaching expertise in quantitative research methods. Strong qualifications are essential in quantitative research design and analysis, along with experience and interest in educational evaluation and research across the K-16 spectrum. We expect the successful candidate will provide intellectual leadership through teaching, advising, and research to the Policy, Management and Evaluation Division, and across-divisional programs within the Graduate School of Education.

Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Development (ISHD)

The University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education (PennGSE), invites applications for a tenure-track position (open-rank) in its Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Development (ISHD) program. The successful candidate will have a research program directed towards the study of the social, emotional, cognitive, or physical aspects of human development, with a particular focus on culture and human development.  The position should complement PennGSE's existing strengths in applied research and developmental studies from preschool to adolescence.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach masters and doctoral courses in such areas as children and youth; cognitive, social, and emotional development; learning in schools and other cultural contexts. The candidate will also be expected to collaborate with other faculty involved in school-university partnerships, nationally recognized research centers, and other programs and departments within the University, as well as in international settings.
