About The National Partnership for Community Leadership
The National Partnership for Community Leadership (NPCL) is a nonprofit organization created for charitable and educational purposes. The mission of NPCL is to improve the governance and administration of nonprofit tax-exempt organizations and strengthen community leadership through family and neighborhood empowerment.
One of NPCL's initiatives is The Partners for Fragile Families Project (PFF). PFF is the first comprehensive national initiative designed to help poor single fathers pull themselves out
of poverty and build stronger links to their children and their children's
mothers. PFF was established in 1996 to provide support for these "fragile
families," which are defined as low-income, never-married parents and
their children. Pilot programs have shown that many of the fathers in these
families are involved with their children during the early childhood years.
However, research indicates that this involvement tends to dissipate over
time, often with negative consequences for children.
